Brandon Owen Returns to Stevenson & Co. for Third Solo Exhibition: “Old Gold”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA

STEVENSON & CO.  proudly presents the third solo exhibition of acclaimed painter and friend of the gallery, Brandon Owen, opening on Friday, July 11 in the heart of the French Quarter in historic downtown Charleston at 50 Queen Street . Titled “Old Gold,” the exhibition features a powerful new body of work that continues Owen’s exploration of Americana, nostalgia, and equine iconography—similar to pieces from his previous series, "Junk Opera," shown through Stevenson & Co,  infused with the artist’s signature blending of reverence, irony, and grit.

A Kentucky-based creative and  mid-career painter, Owen is a rising force in contemporary Western art. Owen's distinctive painterly aesthetic caught the eye of Charleston-based gallery owner Patrick Stevenson in early April 2024.  His work draws from rodeo culture, childhood memories, and the American landscape—often centering on the horse as both symbol and subject. Since aligning with Stevenson & Co. in June 2024, Owen has become a founding pillar of the gallery’s roster of artists represented, known for his emotionally resonant compositions, dramatic lighting, vibrant color choices and his signature "mouthless cowboys," .

This exhibition marks a return to form with larger-than-life canvases that are at once cinematic and intimate. From a rearing stallion emblazoned with the word Everyday, to the golden silhouette of a horse beneath a blood-red flag reading When the Sun Sets, each piece pulses with narrative energy. Other works feature evocative phrases like See You Soon and Liberté, pairing romantic Americana with graphic punch. A grid of six horse portraits, each uniquely marked with symbols, numbers, or stenciled words, showcases Owen’s ability to blend repetition with subtle character study.

“Brandon’s work feels like visual folklore,” says gallery owner Patrick Stevenson. “It’s heroic but deeply personal—rooted in storytelling, memory, and the contradictions of the American spirit. His paintings are both quiet elegies and bold declarations.”

You're Invited! The gallery is hosting an artist reception  to celebrate the opening of the exhibition and requests the pleasure of your company for an evening filled with specialty cowboy cocktails, lite bites, conversations with the artist, and a first look at Old Gold. This party is from 5-8pm and located at Stevenson.& Co, at 50 Queen Street, Charleston, SC. This event is not ticketed, open to the general public, and will be a family-friendly experience appropriate for children and adults alike.

This marks a defining moment in the ongoing collaboration between Owen and Stevenson & Co., celebrating a shared commitment to showcasing exceptionally talented artists with distinctive voices and a strong point of view.

Pieces from Brandon Owen’s upcoming show are now available for preview and pre-sale. Pieces may be purchased directly through this website or by phone. If you have any questions about the art, would like additional images provided of the art, or wish to discuss shipping or installation of these pieces, please contact gallery founder and director, Patrick Stevenson at (843) 261-4768 or email info@stevensonandco.shop.
