Julie Messerschmidt (b. 1954) grew up in Boston, Massachusetts, where the rich blend of culture, the arts, and history deeply influenced her childhood, and led her to eventually pursue a career as a painter. Formally trained at the Florence. Academy of Art, Julie Messerschmidt is contemporary still-life painter whose work draws on the traditions of classical realism. Her compositions often feature weathered vessels, delicate florals, and natural ephemera—objects chosen or their quiet symbolism and emotional resonance. With a focus on light, texture, and the passage of time,
Messerschmidt creates meditative paintings that invite close observation and reflection. Each piece is a study in presence, stillness, and the enduring beauty of the everyday. In 2017, Julie and her husband moved from Charleston to Meursault, France, where they currently reside.
